Mississauga Chapter

Message from the Chair

March 25, 2020

Dear fellow engineer,

I am honored to be elected as Mississauga chapter chair for 2020-2021 session.

We do have a dynamic team who is eager to volunteer and plan events for our chapter members. Attached is a list of the new board members. Please free to e-mail any of our board members if you are interested in bringing speakers or request a certain event in one of the committees. We will gladly assist you.

I would like to emphasize that our Mississauga chapter is one of the most dynamic chapters among 37 chapters throughout Ontario. We have more than 8,000 members and we directly interface with local engineers through various events and activities.

Some of our activities are:

  1. Education: where we host bridge-building and Mathletics for grade 5 to 8 students, robot and coding for high school students. We also award scholarship for students entering engineering  studies
  2. Licensing presentation: our bi-annual certificate award ceremonies where license certificates are awarded to all new professional engineers in the chapter.
  3. Various engineering events: Other events on transportation, environmental, women in engineering, innovation, EIT, etc. These activities include meetings and seminars on current engineering topics and tours of interesting engineering plants.
  4. Mentoring programs for engineers to obtain P.Eng. license.
  5. GLP: Government liaison to influence government engineering policies through meeting with MPPs and inviting them to our various events to learn about our profession.
  6. Work with other chapters and engineering groups to host jointly.

Please attend our events or join as a volunteer in one of our committees. Feel free to provide your input on speakers and events.

As of now, we are facing unprecedented time due to  COVID-19 pandemic. Till this settles, we will not be hosting any public events.

As a novelty feature, we are going to introduce virtual webinars as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Best regards,

Pappur Shankar, FEC, P.Eng.
