Mississauga Chapter

Volunteering Opportunities at UoT

Professor Aimy Bazylak, P.Eng. would like to warmly invite engineers in the Mississauga Chapter to submit a design problem and become a client for a 1st year University of Toronto Engineering “Sustainability Scholars” design team. They are launching a special series of 1st year engineering design projects focused on sustainability through our 1st year Engineering Strategies & Practice (ESP) course – a core 1st year engineering course of 1000 students focused on the role of engineering in society, our relationship with the environment, and the potential and importance of engineering work for people.
To get involved, you simply need to describe a design problem, which might involve a facility, a process, or a device, and we will connect you with our 1st year design teams (4-5 people teams)! The time commitment is also minimal – we ask you to meet with the students 3 times over a 3 month period and attend their final project presentation – for a total time commitment of 3.5 hours. First meeting should be in person (perhaps at your place of work) but subsequent ones could be done through an internet service such as Skype.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to connect with our university, sustainability community, and engineering student body, as well as to build linkages with our students as they move into upper years where they may work with you again in senior undergraduate design projects and as future employees!
If you are interested, please contact Prof. Aimy Bazylak (Director, Institute for Sustainable Energy) at abazylak@mie.utoronto.ca by Aug 1, 2017. They are now recruiting projects to be finalized by September 1, 2017 for student teams to begin working with you in January, 2018.
