The Environmental Committee of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Mississauga Chapter in partnership with The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Ontario Section would like to invite you to a Panel Discussions regarding Ontario’s Energy Distribution System, Province Long Term Energy Plan and the role of Renewables in future of our grid system.

Moderator: Paul Acchione, M.Eng., P.Eng., FCAE

Paul has a B.A.Sc. and M.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Paul is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario and is a member of ASME, ANS, IEEE and ISA and a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Paul has over 45 years of engineering and management experience in the power generation industry. He worked for 31 years with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and its predecessor companies. He is now a Management Consultant at Market Intelligence & Data Analysis Corporation and was the 2013-14 President and Chair of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE). Paul is currently a member of OSPE’s Energy Task Force and CSA Group’s Advisory Council on Renewable Energy.

Shawn-Patrick Stensil: Greenpeace Canada

Shawn-Patrick Stensil is a Senior Energy Strategist leading Greenpeace Canada’s energy transition campaign in Ontario. His work aims to remove regulatory barriers renewable energy and expose the nuclear subsidies and sweetheart deals that stand in the way of Ontario’s energy transition. He is a frequent media commentator on nuclear and green energy issues and testifies regularly on nuclear policy and regulatory issues to Parliamentary committees and government agencies, such as the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. Shawn-Patrick also works as a Radiation Protection Advisor for Greenpeace International and has participated in radiation monitoring work at Chernobyl, Fukushima. In 2009, he was named Best Environmental Activist by Toronto’s Now Magazine. He has contributed to numerous Greenpeace International reports and co-authored a 2013 report with the Pembina Institute entitled Renewable is Doable: Affordable and flexible options for Ontario’s long term energy plan.

Gary Thompson: Honorary Fellow, Centre for Urban Energy, Faculty of Engineering & Architectural Science, Ryerson University

Gary Thompson is an accomplished Engineering Professional and Community Facilitator, with over 25 years working with utilities and industry. He is recognized as a leader, strategic thinker, highly skilled asset manager, smart grid innovator and electrical engineer. Currently at Toronto Hydro, he leads a team of professionals that plan and enable the connection of all sources of electricity energy including renewable generation, energy storage and large industrial infrastructure, providing analytical and technical studies for the Toronto Hydro Electricity System and its customers. As an Educator he has developed and taught courses in Power Systems, Electric Machines, Renewable Energy and Business at various academic institutions. He currently is an Honorary Fellow at the Center for Urban Energy, Faculty of Engineering Ryerson University.

Dr. Bob Willard: Speaker and author of world-class resources for sustainability champions

Bob is a leading expert on quantifying the business value of sustainability strategies. He has given over a thousand presentations, has authored six books, and provides extensive resources for sustainability champions. He serves on the boards of Forum for the Future U.S. and the Future-Fit Foundation. He was one of the first five inductees into the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) Hall of Fame in 2011 and received a Clean50 award in 2015. He is an award-winning B Corp, an ISSP Certified Sustainability Professional, and has a PhD in sustainability from the University of Toronto.
