Patent Strategies with Nancy Hill, P.Eng.

The Women In Engineering committee of the Mississauga Chapter of Professional Engineers Ontario would like to invite you to participate in a seminar to discuss the topic of Patent Strategies. This event will take place on April 23, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Tomken Arena, Auditorium in Mississauga.
The speaker for the evening will be Nancy Hill, Partner, Hill & Schumacher. Nancy Hill is a patent agent, trademark agent, lawyer and professional engineer. She co-founded the patent and trademark agency firm Hill & Schumacher. Nancy works exclusively in the area of intellectual property law. Her clients include small, medium, large and start-up businesses as well as Centres of Excellence and Universities. She manages, for her clients, international portfolios of patents and designs. She has drafted patents in a wide variety of areas including robotics, mechanical devices, software, chemical processes, microfluidics, and electromagnetic devices.
Prior to entering law school, Nancy studied civil engineering at the University of Toronto and worked in consulting engineering. She was called to the bar in 1988 and has worked exclusively in the area of intellectual property law since 1989.
Nancy served as a Lieutenant-Governor-Appointee in Council for Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) from 2000 to 2007. In addition she has volunteered on a variety of committees at PEO and Ontario Society of Professional Engineers. She is also a member of the Research Management Committee of Auto 21. In 2008 she was invested as a companion in the Order of Honour for her work in the engineering profession.
A question and answer period will close the event. The presentation will discuss:

- What is a patent;
- Why file a patent;
- When should one file a patent;
- Where should one file a patent;
- Patent costs.
There is no cost to attend this networking event and it is open to male and female attendees from any PEO chapter. Light refreshments will be served.
