Environmental Assessments for Major Resource Projects
Stephen Lindley, Corporate Vice President of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs, and Director of Environmental Assessment and Planning for the SNC-Lavalin Inc. Environment Division will speak on Environmental Assessments as a Practical Tool for Planning, Building and Operating Major Resource Projects. The presentation is organized by the Mississauga Chapter PEO Environmental Committee. The discussion will focus on EAs and their role in resource planning for northern Ontario, EA as a tool for engaging aboriginal communities, and incorporating EA into project design, construction and operation, ensuring a follow through on commitments.
Mr. Lindley has nearly thirty (30) years experience, including 25 years with SNC-Lavalin Inc. In addition to his substantial international experience, Mr. Lindley has managed many multi-disciplinary environmental projects, including municipal, provincial and federal EAs for a variety of large and small scale projects within Ontario. His work has included baseline studies, site and route selection studies, impact assessment, mitigation, environmental assessment, monitoring and agency and community stakeholder consultation. In addition to his extensive experience in environmental planning, Mr. Lindley has also enjoyed a complementary career in aboriginal and northern affairs. Mr. Lindley currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, the Aboriginal Human Resource Council and 3 aboriginal-owned joint venture companies where SNC-Lavalin is minority shareholder. He has been Chief Negotiator on a number of key business transactions, which recently included a Limited Partnership between the Innu Nation of Labrador and SNC-Lavalin Inc., and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Six Nations of the Grand River. Mr. Lindley is expert in aboriginal community consultation and has led 5 major Traditional Knowledge studies.
