Challenge Summary:

The annual Bridge Building Challenge operated by the Mississauga Chapter of Professional Engineers Ontario will be held on Saturday, March 1st 2014. Teams will be provided with a kit of 100 popsicle sticks, white school glue, and a set of rules. The challenge will be to research and create a design for a bridge and then build it from the supplied kit of popsicle sticks. On the day of the event, students will have to give a short presentation about their bridge in front of a panel of judges who are all Engineers. Your bridge will then be tested on a bridge buster and it will record the load that the bridge is supporting at the moment it breaks. However, the strength of the bridge is only one component in the total score since other aspects about the bridge including design technique, construction quality, creativity and even aesthetics will be evaluated by the judges. The top three teams with the highest score will receive prizes. Other prizes will be awarded including an award for the strongest bridge.

Bridge Building Challenge is open to grade 7 and 8 students.

Spaces are limited to only 100 teams! Teams can have up to two (2) students.

Note:
  • Each participant must be accompanied by Teacher/Parent/Guardian on the day of the event.
  • Each participant must bring signed Consent Form (will be available soon) to the event.
