Abstract:
Circular economy is a sustainable economic development model. It replaces the traditional economic development model that relies heavily on resource consumption and waste generation. Circular economy is particularly important to the waste electrical and electronic equipment industry as e-waste contains toxic substances and precious metals. Goal 12 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aims to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns through measures such as specific policies and international agreements on the management of materials that are toxic to the environment. The consumption of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) is strongly linked to overall global economic development.
This presentation will review the perspective of e-waste management systems and practices; e-waste legislations; extended producer responsibility; recycling critical materials from e-waste; and circular economy strategies for the waste electrical and electronic equipment industry.
