Doing More with Less: Human Flight on the Power of a Cordless Drill

The Women In Engineering committee of the Mississauga Chapter of Professional Engineers Ontario would like to invite you to participate in a seminar entitled “Doing More with Less: Human Flight on the Power of a Cordless Drill”. This event will take place on Oct. 28, 2014 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Tomken Arena, Auditorium in Mississauga. The speaker for the evening will be Cameron Robertson, P.Eng., Chief Structural Engineer and co-founder at AeroVelo Inc.
Cameron Robertson will present the journey leading to this historic achievement, and the process behind the creation of Atlas. This includes the development and construction of the Snowbird Human-Powered Ornithopter, a precursor project that succeeded in achieving an ancient aeronautical dream in 2010, with the first sustained flight of a human-powered flapping-wing aircraft. Cameron will conclude with future human-powered projects, including AeroVelo’s current focus on high-speed human-powered land vehicles. In the quest for the world human-powered land speed record, these vehicles showcase aerodynamic strategies that allow speeds of over 130 km/hr, with equivalent fuel efficiencies nearly 100 times better than the average car.
A question and answer period will close the event. This networking event and it is open to male and female attendees from any PEO chapter. Light refreshments will be served.
