Leveraging WWTPs to generate clean fuel from Organics – Webinar
October 19 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Event Navigation
Transformation of WWTP into Net Zero Resource recovery facilities promote Organics diversion and clean fuel generation through innovative technologies and project delivery models.
There are 78 WRRF in operations in the United States for a period of approximately 10 years. Ontario Clean Water Agency operates a portfolio of WWTPs that has a potential of introducing codigestion into existing WWTPs that will allow food waste to be brought in the plant and co digest with existing sludge to increase/enhance the biogas production thus cleaning/ upgrading this to clean fuels namely Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and resulting beneficial usage of biosolids management. OCWA initiated its Energy Conservation and Resource Recovery initiative in 2017 and since has been successful to lead/develop multiple codigestion projects in various stages of implementation. This initiative with support from various industries and regulatory stakeholders’ support has made it possible to have the first codigestion project by end of 2021 with few more in the pipeline. The initiative has ignited the codigestion movement in Ontario with more than 25 municipalities exploring this avenue as combined Organics management and Resource recovery approach. Presented by Indra MaharjanI. Maharjan specializes in energy management, climate change and resource recovery. He currently leads OCWA’s innovation, technology, and alternative delivery portfolio across Ontario and is the lead for this group.
