PEO Mississauga Evaluation and Preservation of Heritage Structures Seminar
On September 11, 2023, the PEO Mississauga Chapter hosted the “Evaluation and Preservation of Heritage Structures Seminar” featuring presentations by Professor Pillai from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Mr. Haixue Liao from Vector Corrosion Technologies. This seminar delved into cutting-edge technologies for heritage preservation, with a focus on notable case studies such as the Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan) in India, the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, Canada, and the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge in China. The two keynote addresses are:
- “Conservation of a 100-year-old steel-reinforced lime-concrete system in a Class I heritage building using galvanic anode cathodic protection” by Professor Radhakrishna G Pillai of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM). The presentation slides can be found here.

This seminar drew an enthusiastic audience of approximately 80 professionals from various engineering fields, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering, among others.
